HELLO 2020!! New Jewelry Collections From RudyBlu!

HELLO 2020!! New Jewelry Collections From RudyBlu!

Wow! A new decade? Where did the last year go let alone the last decade? So many wonderful and difficult challenges that are a memory now. But I will carry those memories and lessons with me forever. In a good way. Even at the age of 53 I am still growing and learning mentally. I love this. It is never too late to start over or begin a new hobby, career, relocation, or lifestyle. I have had all of those activities happening the past year alone! Makes life interesting right? I personally am looking forward to the next year and beyond and seeing where life takes me and RudyBlu Jewelry in these adventures.

widebandgoldringwithhugeemeraldcutbluetopazrudyblujewelryI am chomping at the bit to get two new jewelry lines out in the world. I have a High Jewelry Collection available later this month influenced by my mom's original wedding ring. I say original because about 15 years ago she did not know her ring fell down the sink in to the disposal. And yep, she ground it in to pieces. It was a wide band with a basket weave pattern and little diamond and sapphire stones around it. The gold was pretty thin and not strong enough to withstand the garbage disposal. She kept the pieces thinking some day she would have it remade but never did. Dad did get her a lovely new ring so not to worry! I have the original ring pieces now after she passed away this year. I just recently had the design and molds finished for the 2020 version of this ring. (Photo at left is the first new ring in the collection) As you know already, I love big statement jewelry. These rings and complimenting earrings will not disappoint. I also designed a gorgeous Initial Pendant in a sand blasted 14K gold and diamonds.

I have always loved letter or initial pendants but I have never found any that I would wear. I knew what I wanted so now I have designed it and made it. Of course I started with the letter A that I wear every day. It is a big letter pendant just like I like it!rudyblujewelryinitialpendant14kgoldanddiamondletterpendantThe Initial Pendants are made to order and will be listed on my website soon!

My second new collection is called The Screaming Pearl. A modern take on pearls that are classy yet tons of fun.  Carved, enameled, colored and paired with gemstones and gold and silver. Yum!

Stay tuned for some fun luxury from RudyBly jewelry to add some "gorgeousness" to your next year and decade. You deserve it. We all deserve it. Go Crush It!

November Birthdays Enjoy The Citrine & Topaz Beauty

November Birthdays Enjoy The Citrine & Topaz Beauty

I get excited each month introducing the birthstone for it. There is usually more than one birthstone associated to each month, for November the beautiful Citrine Quartz and Topaz are two to admire.citrine gemstone beaded bracelets november birthstone birthday gift

november birthstone citrine quartz rudyblu jewelry

Citrine is the transparent, pale yellow to brownish orange variety of quartz. Legend has it, according to the GIA, "Egyptians gathered ornately striped agates from the shore and used them as talismans, the ancient Greeks carved rock crystal ornaments that glistened like permafrost, and the hands of Roman pontiffs bore rings set with huge purple amethysts. Natural citrine is rare, and today most citrine quartz is the result of heat treatment of amethyst quartz. Even so, gems from the Victorian era have surfaced, and it’s not hard to imagine that citrine was treasured even in earlier times." Natural citrine is rare, most of the citrine on the market is the result of heat treatment, which causes some amethyst to change color from undesirable pale violet to an attractive yellow. The amethyst’s original hue can determine the richness of the resulting citrine’s yellow color. Citrine used to be confused with topaz depending on its color. The varieties of blue Topaz get me all excited.

The blue topaz gemstone is one of my favorites. sky blue topaz ring november birthstone rudyblu fine jewelryBlue is my favorite color so naturally I am drawn to topaz. Well, and aquamarine. "Topaz actually has an exceptionally wide color range that, besides brown, includes various tones and saturations of blue, green, yellow, orange, red, pink, and purple. Colorless topaz is plentiful, and is often treated to give it a blue color. Topaz is also pleochroic, meaning that the gem can show different colors in different crystal directions." according to the GIA website. The history and lore of the Topaz is just as interesting as the Citrine.

**Photo of Topaz ring is of our brand new Fine Jewelry Line The Irmgard Collection. Influenced from my late mom's wedding ring. Coming January 2020.

Taken from the GIA website (I love their knowledge of gems) - "Most authorities agree that the name topaz comes from Topazios, the old Greek name for a small island in the Red Sea, now called Zabargad. (The island never produced topaz, but it was once a source of peridot, which was confused with topaz before the development of modern mineralogy.) Some scholars trace the origin back to Sanskrit (an ancient language of India) and the word topas or tapaz, meaning “fire.”

The ancient Greeks believed that topaz gave them strength. In Europe during the Renaissance (the period from the 1300s to the 1600s) people thought that topaz could break magic spells and dispel anger. For centuries, many people in India have believed that topaz worn above the heart assures long life, beauty, and intelligence.

The name for imperial topaz originated in nineteenth-century Russia. At the time, the Ural Mountains were topaz’s leading source, and the pink gemstone mined there was named to honor the Russian czar. Ownership of the gem was restricted to the royal family."

Jewelry That Gives Back - Why We Do What We Do

Jewelry That Gives Back - Why We Do What We Do

I have two dreams. That all of our military vets and wounded warriors get the mental and physical attention they need to carry out a normal (as normal as possible) life and that the stress of finances and mental health can go away. And, that the Parkinson's disease will be eliminated.

Special Operations Wounded Warriors foundation and rudyblu jewelryparkinson's foundation support group and rudyblu jewelry

My initial passion for starting RudyBlu Jewelry was to support two charities that are close to my heart. Perhaps that is the opposite of how you are supposed to start a business but so be it. The two organizations I try to support through sales of our jewelry are SOWW (Special Operations Wounded Warriors) and The NW Parkinson's Foundation.    These are two issues that hit close to home for me.

One, The NW Parkinson's Foundation, in memory of my dad who passed away from Parkinson's and one of my dear friends who is battling the disease now. It is a crippling degenerative disease and I wish there will be a cure in my life time.

Two, SOWW (Special Operations Wounded Warriors) an organization that offers support in so many ways to the men that come home with many physical and mental complications. And in memory of one of SOWW's founders who passed away recently from medical issues that could have been prevented had the VA system not strung him along for care.

For every purchase made with RudyBlu a portion is donated to both organizations.

Below are handmade leather & stainless steel bracelets made specifically for these charities. Awesome uni-sex bracelets engraved with SOWW logo, US Flag or Plain. Pass it along! Great gift idea that you can tell a story with.

My dream is to say I was able to donate over a million dollars to each organization each year. Hey, a girl can dream right?

Thank you.

October Birthstone is Opal!

October Birthstone is Opal!

Fire opal gold earrings rudyblu jewelry October birthstone opal

What I am about to say is something a gemstone jewelry maker probably should not admit to. My birthday is in October and as a kid I was disappointed that my birthstone was Opal. There I said it. But much has changed since then! Of course as a child you like shiny sparkly things. I was jealous of the bright colored gems of other birthstones like peridot or amethyst. At the time I was not looking closely at Opals.

Fire opal gemstone bracelet october birthstone rudyblu jewleryOf course I now think quite differently. I just did not appreciate their beauty. Each Opal variety has rich and deep color variations in each stone. They mesmerize you with their unique colors that shine differently in specific light. And I also did not realize that this opal gemstone was quite valuable. The more colorful the stone the more expensive they get. I am still learning about this precious "semi-precious" gem. I have started creating delicate opal jewelry with Fire Opal which is in the lighter more creamy color family that has gorgeous blues and pinks glowing through them. The darker variety of Opal which is more blue or black with amazing colors are even more precious. How

opal gemstone october birthstone rudyblu jewelrycould I have misunderstood this beauty?! Fire opal threader earrings october birthstone rudyblu jewelry

Throughout most of history, opal has been regarded as the luckiest and most magical of all gems because it can show all colors. Once, it was thought to have the power to preserve the life and color of blond hair. Many cultures have credited opal with supernatural origins and powers. Arabic legends say it falls from the heavens in flashes of lightning. The ancient Greeks believed opals gave their owners the gift of prophecy and guarded them from disease. Europeans have long considered the gem a symbol of hope, purity, and truth. * (Taken from GIA - Opal History and Lore)

There is a reason the Opal has been called the "Queen of Gems". I am honored to be an October baby and more proud to call the Opal my birthstone.

How To - Best Ways To Stack Bracelets!

How To - Best Ways To Stack Bracelets!

Stacking bracelets gemstone beaded bracelets rudyblu jewelry

Stacking and layering jewelry has been on trend for some time and does not seem to be phasing out anytime soon. We are layering necklaces from choker to long, ring stacks mix metal and gem colors and our favorite is stacking bracelets. I call it arm candy!
Stacking or wearing multiple bracelets in a variety of materials and colors adds dimension to your style when done right. Or just have fun and pile them on!

Mixing and matching is an essential part of achieving the perfect bracelet stack.
  • Adding color is a super easy way to change your stack. Whether you choose a pink leather wrap or a small beaded strand, keeping your outfit for the day in mind when choosing color pops is crucial. You’ll want to be sure to go with coordinating colors and avoid ones that may clash.
  • stackable bracelets pearls, metal and gemstones rudyblu jewelry
  • An all-metal bracelet stack is a classic look that is easy to achieve and you probably already own a few to get started with.  Metals like gold, rose gold, silver, and platinum go together very well.
  • Try mixing different sizes and textures like a leather wrap with bangles and even a link and a watch.
  • Avoid overshadowing small pieces by not pairing them with extra large bangles or cuffs.

  • When it comes to mixing and matching be creative, have fun and let your personal style show!

August Babies Love Peridot!

August Babies Love Peridot!

Peridot pendant necklace rudyblu jewelry august birthstoneIf you are a lucky August born baby then you probably know and love the gemstone peridot! If you are greened eyed and a redhead you definitely look fabulous in peridot jewelry. What I love about peridot is the color. Yes it is green obviously, but the color of green that it is shows off. Did you know the history and folklore behind peridot?

"Peridot has always been associated with light. In fact, the Egyptians called it the “gem of the sun.” Some believed that it protected its owner from “terrors of the night,” especially when it was set in gold. Others strung the gems on donkey hair and tied them around their left arms to ward off evil spirits. Most peridot formed deep inside the earth and was delivered to the surface by volcanoes. Some also came to earth in meteorites, but this extraterrestrial peridot is extremely rare, and not likely to be seen in a retail jewelry store. But wouldn't that be awesome to have?! Peridot threader earrings august birthstone rudyblu jewelry

Some historians believe that Cleopatra’s famous emerald collection might actually have been peridot. People in medieval times continued to confuse peridot with emerald. For centuries, people believed the fabulous 200-ct. gems adorning the shrine of the Three Holy Kings in Germany’s Cologne Cathedral were emeralds. They are, in fact, peridots." (Sourced from the GIA)

All of us at RudyBlu love this stone also. We make several pieces out of it and it is one of our best sellers. If you are an August birthday the you should treat yourself to some peridot fabulousness!!!

June Birthdays Love Pearls!

June Birthdays Love Pearls!

June Babies rejoice! This is the birthday month of pearls, pearls, pearls. From the classic Mrs. Bush pearl necklace to modern pearl jewelry designs just like RudyBlu creates. Pearls will never go out of style. In fact pearl jewelry has come back in fashion with a vengeance!

Pearls range in size, color, and quality which of course affects the price. There are Fresh Water, Tahitian, Edison, Keshi, Flameball, Round, Potato, Rice, Button and many shapes to choose from. I have a great love for pearls and and try to incorporate them in my collections. Finding resources for beautiful pearls is half the excitement. Then comes the fun of placing them out in front of me and creating unique and modern jewelry. I love the simple delicate pearl pieces but I especially love to make the more statement layered and long pearl necklaces and bracelets.

Layers of color in a wrap bracelet that double duties as a choker necklace or long 60" layering pieces.

Anything goes with pearls and anyone at any age can wear them. They add elegance to your look and confidence to you. Who can say no to that?

Matthew Barney Film Redoubt Stars RudyBlu Jewelry Designer Anette Wachter

Matthew Barney Film Redoubt Stars RudyBlu Jewelry Designer Anette Wachter

Fun Fact! - I, RudyBlu designer Anette Wachter played Diana in the new Matthew Barney film released two weeks ago at the Yale University Museum.

dianacopperstchingmatthewbarneyanettewachterThe world premier and opening of Matthew Barney's Redoubt was held March 1st at his alma mater Yale University. Along with the film, "the exhibition features pieces in other media that demonstrate casting and electroplating techniques developed by Barney for Redoubt. Four large-scale sculptures were made from the trunks of burned trees harvested by the artist from the Sawtooth Mountains. Also included are engravings on copper plate created during the filming of Redoubt as well as a series of electroplated copper reliefs that depict imagery from the film. Redoubt loosely adapts the myth of Diana, goddess of the hunt, and Actaeon, a hunter who trespasses on her and is punished. Like most of Barney’s previous films, Redoubt contains no dialogue; instead, the characters communicate through choreography that echoes and foreshadows their encounters with wildlife." (from Yale Art Blog) (article by Why would Matthew have cast me as the role of Diana? Because he was searching for a real life female marksman and that was me!

As well as being a jewelry designer I have been competing in long range rifle competition for over ten years. I am a member of The US Rifle Team. You can view my blog 30CalGal for more details on that part of my life. Early 2016 Matthew's associate Mamie contacted me out of the blue about the role of Diana. I was very interested of course but we needed to meet each other in person to see if this was the right fit. Matthew flew out to Seattle and we all met at my local shooting club and then had lunch. We worked out details of my role and I shot some practice copper plates on edge for him to prove I can actually hit the target. Next thing I know we were off to Stanley, Idaho that December.

Rob and I packed up with our dog and drove from WA to Stanley and spent the next two and a half weeks filming. We went back again in March of 2017 for another 2 weeks. We experienced a record snowfall and below zero temps but that area of the Sawtooth Mountains was stunning. We traveled back and forth between Stanley and Challis and spent our days in remote mountain areas transported around by snowmobiles. The cast (myself, Eleanor Bauer, Laura Stokes and Matthew Barney) and crew spent long days together and had an amazing experience. The Mountain Village resort in Stanley that we stayed had an enclosed hot spring down at the river. We got all bundled up and snowshoed down to the pool late at night after working. The Inns and restaurants of Stanley and Challis took good care of our crew. With the help of Travis and Brenda of Mile High Outfitters we were guided through the mountains and terrain of the area able to view all of the abundant wildlife. Brenda made home cooked meals for us three times a day for our hungry and cold crew. The Mountain Village Resort kept their restaurant and bar open even during this slow time of year for us. This experience is something I will never forget and I was so thrilled with finally seeing the film and gallery of art for the first time at the University.

For two years another behind the scenes crew put together the entire exhibit. Coming to Yale for the premier allowed me the opportunity to meet Katharine McQuerrey the editor, music composer Jonathan Bepier, Pamela Franks with the museum and all of the talented people behind the scenes that made this possible and beautiful. The exhibit opened to the public on the 1st of March. The day before we had a private showing and lunch and dinner party for cast and crew and invited guests of Matthew. Hard to believe two years has gone by since the filming. I loved the film. It was beautiful and I am happy with my performance. Apparently everyone else was too! Thank you! And of course the sculptures and copper etchings in the gallery are really cool. We had a wonderful time seeing everyone again and then meeting the other amazing artists that did all of the post production work. I can't thank Matthew and his team enough for this incredible experience. Please view the trailer of Redoubt below!

The exhibit will be at the Yale University Art Gallery through June 16, 2019. Then to UCCA, Beijing September 28 - December 15 2019 and then Hayward Gallery, London March 4 - May 10, 2020.

Age Appropriate Jewelry For Women over 40!

Age Appropriate Jewelry For Women over 40!

To me personally, age is all about confidence. So really, age appropriate is what I call confidence appropriate. What ever you like and feel beautiful in is appropriate. Thank goodness we are in a time when age is becoming a non-issue. And thank goodness there is RudyBlu that makes appropriate jewelry for YOU to feel beautiful.

Beautiful silver haired woman wearing rudyblu leather and steel wrap necklace

Society now dictates that no matter the body size and age of women, they are celebrated and embellished, not hidden and shamed. Search all of the gorgeous Instagram female Influencers out there with silver hair. Each has a loyal following of several hundred thousand people if not a million or more. Perhaps that is why I got an extra boost of creativity and excitement starting the RudyBlu jewelry brand at the age of 52.

rudyblu designer wearing labradorite pendant leather choker necklace with red tank top

I love big and bold jewelry. I design adventurous statement jewelry that stands out. Is it age appropriate for a woman over 40 and 50? Heck yes! It's what makes you feel confident and beautiful. Do you feel your best in cowboy boots and jeans or a dress and heels? For me it depends on the day or event, not my age.

My age does not dictate my style. Nor should yours. Don't be age appropriate. Be confident appropriate!
